All schools in Delhi up to Class 5 will transition to online learning until further notice due to escalating pollution levels, Chief Minister Atishi announced on Thursday. The move comes after the Central Pollution Control Board (CAQM) implemented restrictions under GRAP Stage III in Delhi-NCR due to the alarming air quality.
“Given the rising pollution levels, all primary schools in Delhi will shift to online classes until further directions,” Atishi, who also oversees the education portfolio, said in a post on X.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has instructed the heads of all government, private, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) schools to suspend offline classes for students up to Class 5.

In a statement, the DoE directed, “All heads of government, aided, and unaided private recognized schools under DoE, MCD, and NDMC in Delhi are hereby ordered to discontinue physical classes for students up to Class 5.”
DoE Directs Schools to Switch to Online Classes for Students Up to Class 5 Amid Severe Air Pollution in Delhi
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has instructed school heads to conduct online classes for students up to Class 5 until further notice. The move comes as Delhi’s air quality remains in the ‘severe’ category for the second consecutive day, leading authorities to implement strict anti-pollution measures.
Restrictions Under GRAP Stage III to Begin Friday: Schools Up to Class 5 to Shift to Online Learning
The restrictions under Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), announced by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), will take effect on Friday. As part of these measures, schools up to Class 5 will switch to online classes.
GRAP classifies air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR) into four stages: Stage I — ‘Poor’ (AQI 201-300), Stage II — ‘Very Poor’ (AQI 301-400), Stage III — ‘Severe’ (AQI 401-450), and Stage IV — ‘Severe Plus’ (AQI >450).
